With gooey cinnamon apples and a buttery, gingery cookie crumble- this gluten free ginger snap apple crisp will become your new fall dessert classic!
Move over pumpkin spice latter season, it’s apple season!
Originally, I began to make this recipe into a pie. But then, I realized that I forgot that I actually prefer apple crisp. Like I love it so much I even have a 10-minute version!
I mean, really…who needs a crust when streusel is involved?!? First, fruit crisp is very easy to make gluten free! Simply use gluten free oats and flour. Then, each serving has more apple filling than a slice of pie- AKA the good stuff! And honestly, making an apple pie with a top and bottom crust just seems like way too much crust! Plus, streusel adds a buttery sweetness to spiced apples!
Warm and cozy- this dish would be perfect for Thanksgiving dessert!
And, a lot of recipes call for up to 1 cup of sugar to be added to the apples. Why, oh why?!? This step is unnecessary as apples are already sweet!
Here’s Why You’ll Love This Gluten Free Apple Crisp Recipe
- No need to buy or bake a pie crust!

To Peel or Not To Peel
Really, you could go either way! I often peel, but leaving the skin keeps more nutrients in the dish.

Gluten Free Ginger Snap Apple Crisp
Ingredients
- 6 - 8 apples, peeled & sliced
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp. apple cider
- 1 Tbsp. corn starch
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Ginger Snap Streusel
- 1 c. gluten free ginger snaps, crushed (about 3-4 oz.)
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. gluten free flour (I used oat flour)
- 4 Tbsp. butter, cold & cubed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, apple cider, corn starch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Using clean hands or a spoon, mix until combined. Pour apples into a greased pie baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix the ginger snaps, brown sugar, and flour. Then, add the cubed butter. Use clean hands or a fork to cut in the butter. Mixture should still have small clumps. Then, sprinkle over the apples. Cover and bake for 20 minutes. Then, remove the cover and lower oven to 350 degrees. Return to the oven for 15-20 minutes, until apples are fork tender.
- Top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
