The #1 summer pastime must be heading to the beach. I’m certain there are families that prefer the mountains, but I rarely seem to come into contact with them. The allure of the crashing waves and coarse sand is intoxicating! And whether you’re going for a day, a long weekend, or two weeks-snacks are crucial!
While tanning (or in my case burning…) on the sunny shores of Delaware, we found ourselves wondering why more restaurants don’t offer delivery to the beach. It seems like a no-brainer. Sure, there are the occasional Italian ices from the back of a small truck or golf cart, otherwise, you are forced to hike across the hot sand to the boardwalk (if there is one), starve in the sweltering heat, or bring along your own.
I must say, Greece has the right idea. All of the restaurants across the path from the beach have their own set of lounge chairs and umbrellas. You can either pay to use a chair/umbrella or purchase food and drinks from the restaurant. They even offer WiFi. I suppose the US will catch up someday…until then, we shall bring our own refreshing treats!
Drinks: Water, Gatorade, soda
1) Apples…they are easy to transport, cool, crisp, and delicious.
2) Cheese sticks…cool, creamy, and refreshing- just what you need for a hot day on the beach!
3) Granola(ish) bars…quick and easy to stash in your beach bag.
4) Baked cheese puffs…individual packs that are light and gluten-free.
5) Animal/snack crackers…kids really do have the best snacks!
6) I know…I’m like a kid…but I love fruit snacks! These have some fiber, so I feel better about eating them.
